What is it?
SimChart is an Elsevier platform that provides you with a realistic patient charting experience in an Electronic Health Record (EHR). This platform is designed to help you practice reading patient charts as well as practice proper patient documentation.
To complete a SimChart Case Study:
If you are assigned a SimChart Case Study assignment during an ELA, you will be given a patient with information about their condition.
Follow the instructions detailing what you need to locate within the patient's chart and:
- Review the chart to find the information you need to document
- Locate the appropriate place to document your findings
- In your own words, chart on your patient
- Save your documentation
- When you have completed the assignment, you will submit the assignment to be graded by your course Evaluator.
- Select "Complete & Submit" then "OK" to turn your assignment in.
You should then see this message pop-up:
You can double check that your assignment was submitted by returning to your assignments and seeing that the Status has updated to "Submitted". Any assignments in the "In Progress" Status will not be accepted.
Your earned score will be transferred into your Canvas gradebook.
If you need to document an SBAR in SimChart, please use this document as a helpful guide:
The SimChart assignments that you complete during an ELA will be graded by your course Evaluator. Each SimChart assignment will have a rubric with the grading criteria for the activity. Please view the rubric as you are completing your SimChart assignment to ensure you have documented all of the required information.
The SimChart platform has a time limit recommendation, however, our activities do not follow the time limit provided, so you will not be penalized for going over the recommended time-frame. Your SimChart assignment should be completed during your ELA. If you don't complete the SimChart assignment during your scheduled ELA, you will be given 48 hours from the time your ELA ends to get the assignment completed. After the 48 hours has passed, any missing or late assignments will be given a score of 0. You are still responsible for turning in all assignments to be able to pass the course. The score of 0 will remain for any late work turned in.
