CHSP - Commonwealth Home Support Program [CHSP Website]
Entry-level home support program that helps older people to live independently in their homes and communities. It also provides respite services to give carers a break. [From CHSP]

COS - Continuity of Support
Program designed to assist older people with disability who are currently receiving state-administered specialist disability services, but who are ineligible for the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS). [From DHAC]
This program is sunset and if NDIS rollout is completed no further people will be admitted in the region.

DEX - Government Data EXchange
DSS’s approach to data exchange between funding agencies and service providers. Allows for service providers to upload their reports on a regular basis. [DEX Website]

Disability
Total or partial loss of the person’s bodily or mental functions (The Disability Act 1992). Describes a person’s impairment of body or function, a limitation in activities or a restriction in participation when interacting with their environment. [From NDIS]

DSS - Department of Social Services [DSS Website]
Government department handling families and children, housing support, seniors, communities and vulnerable people, disability and carers and mental health.

HACC - Home and Community Care
The Home and Community Care program provides basic support and maintenance services to frail aged people, younger people with disabilities, and their carers. [From Housing WA]

HCP - Home Care Packages
Packages designed to assist older Australians with affordable care services at home. To cover more complex care needs that go beyond what the CHSP can provide. [HCP Website]

ITCF - Income-Tested Care Fee
The fee paid by those that can pay towards their aged care based on income. [Services Australia Website]

NDIA - National Disability Insurance Agency
The group created by the Australian government to administer the NDIS.

NDIS - National Disability Insurance Scheme
A new way of providing support for Australians with disability, their families and carers. [NDIS Website]
Insurance model: The NDIS spreads the cost of individual’s current and future needs across the broader community. It is available to every Australian that meets the access requirements. It places emphasis on up-front investments to reduce a participant’s future NDIS needs. [From NDIS]

Nominee
A person who can make NDIS decisions for a participant aged 18 or older. A nominee can do things on behalf of the participant when working with the NDIS. [From NDIS]

Participant
A person who is participating in the NDIS.

Person with disability
A person who has any or all of the following: impairments, activity limitations (difficulties in carrying out usual age-appropriate activities), and participation restrictions (problems a person may have taking part in community, social and family life). [From NDIS]

Provider
Regular: Someone who has products or services to help participants pursue the goals in their plan. Participants can choose their providers and change providers at any time, this is also known as choice and control. [From NDIS]
Registered: A disability support provider that has met the NDIS requirements for qualifications, approvals, experience, capacity and quality standards to provide a product or service. [From NDIS]
