This article explains recent updates to DEX-related fields in Nightingale. These changes align Nightingale’s available values with the latest DEX reference data used for government reporting.
Why these updates were introduced
DEX reporting relies on the official DEX reference data codes published for Data Exchange uploads. Nightingale has been updated so the field values available in the product match those current reporting values.
What has changed
The following DEX-related fields have been updated in Nightingale.
1. Updated gender values in DEX Details
Path: Dashboard > Details > Edit DEX Details
The Gender field in DEX Details now includes these current DEX values:
- Man, or male
- Woman or female
- Non-binary
- I/They use a different term
- Not stated
If I/They use a different term is selected, a free-text field will appear and must be completed before the record can be saved. The entered term is also included in the DEX export.
2. New referral source values
Path: Left Toolbar > Reports & Forms > Government > View, Add, and Edit DEX Cases > Add or Edit a Case
Two new Referral Source options are now available:
- Lender/Financial agency
- Accounting agency
3. New exit reason values
Path: Left Toolbar > Reports & Forms > Government > View, Add, and Edit DEX Cases > Add or Edit a Case
Two new Exit Reason options have been added:
- Client no longer eligible
- Client needs have been met
4. Updated session service setting
Path: Left Toolbar > Reports & Forms > Government > View, Add, and Edit DEX Sessions> Add or Edit a Session
The Session > Service Setting list now includes Video as a selectable option for DEX reporting.
The option previously labelled Digital is displayed as Online Service, while retaining its existing DEX coding.
Impact on DEX exports
When any of these new or updated values are selected, Nightingale will export the corresponding correct DEX code in the XML output.
This includes:
- updated gender values
- new referral source values
- new exit reason values
- the Video service setting
Recommended next steps
- Review any internal DEX data entry procedures that refer to the old field values.
- If you use the gender option I/They use a different term, make sure the free-text field is completed before saving.
- If your team reports to DEX regularly, consider checking existing training or process notes so staff know when to use the new referral source, exit reason, and service setting options.
